About CCG Hub

Circular Cricket Gear (CCG) Hub collects unwanted cricket gear and clothing and redistributes it to state schools, community groups and disadvantaged players. CCG Hub is a strategic partnership between Spencer ONE and The Centre for Sustainable Design® (CfSD) at UCA. Spencer ONE are the community delivery partner of Spencer Cricket Club, tasked with ensuring that its charitable objectives are met. The Hub is delivered in collaboration with Surrey County Cricket Club, Surrey Cricket Foundation and Decathlon UK.

Background

Spencer ONE is an initiative of Spencer Cricket Club (SCC), the UK's biggest recreational cricket club, with more than 1,550 members playing around 70 games per week. Players from SCC have gone on to represent Surrey and England at the professional level, including Gus Atkinson and Alex Tudor.

CCG Hub is built on research and projects completed with The Centre for Sustainable Design® (CfSD) at UCA. Research within the PASIC project highlighted that millions of cricket gear and clothing items come to the end of their life each year, often ending up stored in attics, garages and the backs of clubs — and some thrown away. Much of the gear and clothing is good quality and can be reused.

Pilot projects organised at Spencer, Frensham and Rowledge cricket clubs in 2024 acted as a proof of concept, and the lessons learnt were documented in a report.

CCG Hub was test-launched in 2025; from 2026 the Hub will operate each year from May to September as a resource for the cricket community in Wandsworth. The 2026 season runs from 11 May to 14 September.

What our partners say

"The foundation is very happy to support and be a part of this exciting initiative. The reuse of kit will help to increase participation in cricket for those who may view the cost of equipment as a barrier to the game is a thrilling prospect." — Harrison Hinks, Club Support Officer, Surrey Cricket Foundation
"We're incredibly excited about this circular initiative. Cricket is a sport with deep roots in local communities and a strong sense of national pride, often nurtured through schools and clubs. Access to valuable equipment is often a barrier for many who want to play. By giving pre-loved gear a second life, we're not only reducing waste, but we're directly helping more people connect with this fantastic game, ensuring it continues to thrive at all levels." — Chris Allen, UK Communications & Impact Leader, Decathlon UK
