Behind the scenes

How CCG Hub works

CCG Hub is powered by an online tool that matches cricket gear and clothing with the people who need it. Donors log what they have, schools and community groups log what they need, and we connect the two — saving waste, carbon and money in the process.

The end-to-end process

Donations come in

Cricket gear and clothing is donated by individuals, clubs and corporate partners. Only clean gear is accepted. Each item is logged into the Hub's stock management tool with details of size, type and condition.

Enquirers email Spencer Cricket Club

Before submitting a wish list, schools, groups and individuals email Spencer ONE with their name, organisation and a short request for need. This is a gate question — Spencer ONE reviews each request and replies. Orders are reviewed and cannot be guaranteed.

Wish lists come in

Once a positive response has been given, the enquirer completes the wish-list form. The form captures who they are, what items they'd like, and the rationale fields (who the gear is for, where they're based, what it will be used for, why second-life).

Matching

The team at Spencer ONE matches available stock to wish lists, prioritising schools, groups and individuals based on greatest need and on a 'first come, first served' basis.

Handover

Recipients collect their gear from Spencer Cricket Club, or it's arranged for delivery on a case-by-case basis. Every handover is logged. Recipients sign the CCG Hub disclaimer before receiving gear.

Impact tracking

We record the weight and type of every item passed on so we can calculate landfill diverted and CO₂ saved. We also track who's receiving the gear, to understand the social reach of the Hub. The live impact dashboard shows the latest figures.

The online tool

The Centre for Sustainable Design® (CfSD) at UCA is working with Spencer Cricket Club on an online stock management tool that smooths the end-to-end donation process. The aim is to make it more time-efficient and transparent for everyone involved — donors, recipients, and the Spencer ONE team running the Hub.

The tool builds on previous research and projects by The Centre for Sustainable Design® (CfSD) at UCA, and is designed to calculate the landfill and carbon savings associated with reuse rather than replacement.

Why an online tool?

  • Faster matching of donations to wish lists
  • Clear stock visibility for the Hub team
  • Automatic carbon and landfill calculations
  • Better data for funders and partners
  • A simple way to see where gear ends up

Impact we measure

Environmental

Weight of gear diverted from landfill, and the CO₂ emissions avoided by reusing rather than replacing kit. Calculated using the methodology developed in CfSD's PASIC research.

Social

Number of schools, community groups and individuals reached. Stories from recipients about how the gear has helped them play, learn and stay in the game.

Economic

Estimated value of the gear redistributed — the cost saving for state schools and community groups who would otherwise need to buy new.

Where the idea came from

CCG Hub is built on research and projects completed with The Centre for Sustainable Design® (CfSD) at UCA. The PASIC project highlighted that millions of cricket gear and clothing items reach end-of-life every year — often stored in attics, garages or the backs of clubs, and sometimes thrown away. Much of this kit is still in good shape and could be reused.

Pilot projects at Spencer, Frensham and Rowledge cricket clubs in 2024 acted as a proof of concept. The lessons learnt fed directly into the design of CCG Hub.
